What to Look for in a Web Design Company.

If your website isn’t driving you business, you’re wasting your time and money.  And what’s worse, is you may be stuck in some LONG contract that is setting you up for failure.

While I’d like to say this doesn’t happen in web design, it does, every day. 

So what is a website and what should it

do for you??? 

Let’s pretend you’re a plumber in the service industry.  If your phone isn’t ringing with new jobs from your website or Google My Business listing or emails asking the same you’re missing the boat.

You simply cannot pretend that people aren’t searching for what you offer online.  I don’t care what industry you’re in, someone is looking for you.

I like to think of a website and Google My Business listing like real estate.  How much visibility are you getting in your target market?  Is your business located off the Interstate and in high traffic areas or are you off in the suburbs?

If someone searches for “plumber near me” and your business isn’t on the first page SOMEWHERE, you lost a lead.  Because more often than not, they’re going to find that plumber on the first page.  Nobody has the time to research for hours,

they need a plumber NOW.

Welcome to the realities of online marketing.

Of course. But be VERY careful because EVERYONE is claiming to be experts in this realm nowadays. Quality placement on Google, Bing, and Yahoo (and more) isn’t an accident. Both national AND local firms can get you there, you just have to know somebody, do your homework, or get lucky.

But the reality is, most of the web design companies FAIL.

Why? Well for one, SEO experts aren’t working for peanuts designing websites. This is brutal honesty here, because the successful one’s are working for themselves or their clients.

I’ve been doing SEO since 2002, both for myself and my clients. While the landscape is MUCH different today, a lot of the same principles apply. You have to provide the right experience for the right clientele.

A successful website not only looks awesome, but is simple to use and provides an answer, quickly. The attention span of the average online user nowadays is just seconds, so make it count and make it engaging.

• We’ve been around almost 20 years.  In the web design industry, this makes us a dinosaur.  We’ve seen most everything and I’d like to say we’ve learned a few things along the way.

• We build for ALL devices with SPEED in mind.  Google is a MOBILE-FIRST search engine, meaning, they want your site to be very mobile-friendly.  Also, if your site is SLOW, it rarely ranks well on search results.  The search engines don’t want to deliver a slow, poor experience.  Most web design companies forget this.

• We’re here AFTER the site goes live.  While this should seem obvious, the reality is a lot of web design companies sort of “disappear” after the site goes live.  If you need something changed, it should be as simple as an email...nothing more (and actually get changed).
